PUMA x Rothaus Indoor “Tannenzäpfle 70th Anniversary”: the anniversary sneaker

For Tannenzäpfle’s 70th, the second PUMA x Rothaus sneaker: light instead of dark, Biergit on the tongue, 109.95 € – I unboxed it in the forest.

Tannenzäpfle turns 70 – and the birthday present is a shoe. The PUMA x Rothaus Indoor “Tannenzäpfle 70th Anniversary” has been available since 19 September 2026 – the second PUMA x Rothaus sneaker after the first PUMA x Rothaus Indoor from last year. I unboxed it and took it where it belongs: into the forest, onto a woodpile.

Light instead of dark: what the second PUMA x Rothaus sneaker does differently

The first Rothaus Indoor came out in 2025 in dark brown and green. The anniversary shoe turns that around: suede in “Alpine Snow” and “Desert Dust”, a calm cream white with a hint of sand. On top sits the green formstrip – to me, the green of the firs around the brewery –, the red “PUMA Indoor” lettering on the side and underneath a gum sole, the way an indoor court shoe from the eighties should have one.

The details are why you buy a shoe like this:

- The tongue carries the Tannenzäpfle label – green base, red and white stripes, Biergit on one side and the pine cones on the other.
- The insoles are colourful and pick up the tones of the Tannenzäpfle world.
- The lace tips are golden and embossed with a pine cone pattern. A second pair of laces in green comes in the box.
- The heel has a golden shimmer – a nod to the gold foil on the neck of the bottle.

The box: red, with firs and Biergit

Lift the box out of the carton and you are holding a piece of Rothaus: a strong red, embossed firs and pine cones, and Biergit on the label. According to the announcement, the special edition comes with postcards showing historic Tannenzäpfle motifs.

70 years of Tannenzäpfle, 235 years of Rothaus

The Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus has been brewing in Grafenhausen since 1791, at around 1,000 metres in the High Black Forest. Tannenzäpfle has existed since 1956 – and for just as long the blonde Black Forest girl in traditional dress has been on the label. Fans gave her the name “Biergit Kraft”, a play on “Bier gibt Kraft” (beer gives strength); the brewery adopted it.

For the brewery, the two anniversaries are the occasion to tell its own tradition anew – and to take the second step with PUMA. My take: the light shoe suits a birthday better than the dark one – it looks like summer on the terrace, not winter by the stove.
