The first edition is limited to 30,000 sets – and anyone who knows the predecessors knows what that means: the three previous editions of the solo Marie each sold out within a few months. With 225,000 copies sold and fans from Baiersbronn to Hawaii, the Playmobil Schwarzwald Marie has long been the unofficial ambassador of the Black Forest – and now gets a fitting companion in Hannes, a down-to-earth Black Forest lad with a trumpet under his arm. Chosen by the community: 1,800 people voted for him in the “Marie me” poll, pushing Valentin (blond sunny boy with glasses) and Jakob (brown curls) into second and third place. The set is thus the first collector's item in the series that the fans helped decide.

Playmobil Schwarzwald Marie: from coincidence to cult collector's item
The story of the Playmobil Schwarzwald Marie begins in 2023 in Baiersbronn. At artist Oliver Schaffer's exhibition “PLAYMOBIL-Spielgeschichten”, someone made an improvised figure with a Bollenhut – and visitors immediately asked where you could buy one. Two years and 225,000 copies later, Marie with her bright red Bollenhut and the Black Forest gateau in her hand is a genuine collector's item from the Black Forest.
Playmobil Bollenhut: why Marie now wears black pompoms
Anyone who knows the Bollenhut knows this: red pompoms are worn by unmarried women, black ones by married women. In the new Playmobil set Marie therefore wears black pompoms – a detail developed together with the costume experts from the Kinzig valley. The Bollenhut belongs to the traditional dress of the three villages of Gutach, Kirnbach and Reichenbach and has become a symbol of the region far beyond the Black Forest – artists such as Stefan Strumbel from Offenburg raised it to pop art long ago.
That Playmobil gets this detail right in the new Schwarzwald Marie set shows how seriously the makers take the matter. Not a cliché, but respect for tradition.
Exhibition “Schwarzwald Marie auf Weltreise” in Baiersbronn 2026
To match the new set, the exhibition “Schwarzwald Marie auf Weltreise” runs from 22 May to 13 September 2026 at the Eishalle Baiersbronn. This is exactly where sales of the new set began on 23 June 2026. So if you want more than Marie on your shelf and would like to experience the whole story behind the Playmobil special figure – this is the place.
