Questions and answers
Where can I park, and does it cost anything?
According to the business there is ample parking, expressly including coach parties.
When is it open, and is there a season?
In summer Monday to Friday 9.00 to 18.30, Saturday 9.00 to 18.00, Sundays and public holidays 10.00 to 13.00. In winter Monday to Saturday 9.00 to 18.00, Sundays and public holidays unchanged 10.00 to 13.00. Café Flora closes 30 minutes earlier – except on Sundays and public holidays, when it keeps the same hours.
Can I bring the dog?
Yes – dogs on a lead are always welcome, the garden centre says itself.
Is it worth it with children?
That is what people come for. The petting zoo has alpacas, pygmy goats with feed dispensers, ponies, pigs, turkeys, rabbits, several kinds of peafowl and pigeons, plus a swan and a few ducks. In the parrot house sit macaws, lories, parakeets and amazons, and the playground has a climbing tower, swings and carved animal figures on a bark-chip floor.
What can I do here when it rains?
The sales areas and Café Flora are under glass – the café sits in the warm house among exotic plants. The petting zoo and the playground are outside, so in steady rain half the site remains.
Which day is the closing day?
None. It is open every day, though on Sundays and public holidays only from 10.00 to 13.00.
Is there a terrace?
Yes, 50 seats on the terrace in the green – plus 100 seats inside in the warm house.
What does admission cost?
There is no charge for the grounds. The petting zoo, the parrot house and the playground belong to the business; feed for the pygmy goats comes from dispensers. The garden centre names a price nowhere – to be sure, ask on 07728 646470.
How much time should I allow?
Half a day for the petting zoo, the parrot house, the playground and a stop at the café; anyone who only wants to buy plants is through in an hour. The site covers more than 17,000 square metres.
Is there somewhere to stop for food on the way?
Café Flora sits in the middle of the garden centre, in the warm house among the plants. 100 seats inside, 50 on the terrace; there is breakfast, snacks, coffee and cake as well as sausage specialities from farmers in the area. It is run by Renate Weißer.
Where do I buy what is made here?
On site: bedding and balcony plants, house plants, perennials, aquatic plants and nursery stock, plus floristry, soils, fertiliser, planters, garden tools, decorations, fountains and sculptures. Regional food is sold in Emma's market barn.
Which animals live in the petting zoo?
Alpacas, pygmy goats, ponies, pigs, turkeys, rabbits, several kinds of peafowl and pigeons, plus a swan and a few ducks. The pygmy goats may be fed from the feed dispensers. In the parrot house next door live macaws, lories, parakeets and amazons.
