Questions and answers

How do I get there without a car?

Bus route 61 runs from Villingen station to Unterkirnach. With the KONUS guest card, issued when you stay overnight in the village, the ride is free.

Where can I park, and does it cost anything?

Free at the Sportlertreff – for the satnav: Sportlertreff 1, 78089 Unterkirnach. Right by the Spielscheune there are only two accessible spaces.

When is it open, and is there a season?

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 15.00 to 19.00, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 14.00 to 19.00. Wednesday is the closing day.

Is it accessible?

The Spielscheune is step-free, and with support children with physical and learning disabilities can use many of the play items. Two accessible parking spaces are right by the building; other parking is at the Sportlertreff.

Is it worth it with children?

That is what it was built for: over 1,000 square metres on three floors with a ball pool, a roller slide and a climbing frame, and outside a slide and a raft on the pond. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult, and the duty of supervision stays with the parents or guardians throughout the visit.

What can I do here when it rains?

That is exactly what it is for – the play area is entirely indoors, on three floors and over 1,000 square metres. The outdoor part with the slide, the pond and the raft is added in good weather.

What does admission cost?

The single ticket costs 7 € and applies from age 3. Guests with a disability pay 6.50 €, their companion comes in free. There is also an eleven-visit card for 70 € and a family annual card for residents at 84 €. Birthday children aged 3 to 12 pay nothing, and neither do holders of the DreiWelten Card and the Hochschwarzwald Card, once.

Is there somewhere to stop for food on the way?

There is Tanni's bistro in the building. You may bring a small snack and a drink, but nothing in glass or ceramic, and eating is only allowed at the tables in the play area or in the bistro.

Do accompanying adults pay admission too?

The price list names a single ticket from age 3 for 7 € and no separate ticket for adults or companions. Only the companion of a guest with a disability goes free. To be sure, ask on 07721 8008-55.

From what age is the Spielscheune worthwhile, and may children come on their own?

The single ticket applies from age 3. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult; older children may come without a guardian if a written consent form is provided.

Do I need to register, and can it get crowded?

For an ordinary visit the Spielscheune mentions no registration. The number of visitors is capped at 200, though – so at weekends, on public holidays and on rainy days it can get tight. For a children's birthday party you do reserve.

Can you hold a children's birthday party at the Spielscheune?

Yes. The reservation costs 30 € on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 35 € on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. That covers the birthday table, all the crockery including washing up, and two litres of mineral water. The birthday child aged 3 to 12 pays no admission, the guests pay the normal rate. Cold snacks, finger food and cake may be brought along; hot food such as pizza or tarte flambée comes from the house.
